Dana Hoey
Dana Hoey is known for her staged work of social roles and relations among women. In her “Pattern Recognition” series, Hoey has collaged original and appropriated images of women and presented them in kaleidoscopic works that depart from the traditional picture plane and pictorial narrative. As a result, these works counter-engage mainstream media culture’s expected picturing of women. Hoey was born in San Francisco, California, and currently lives and works in New York. She received her MFA in photography from Yale University in 1997 and holds a BA in Philosophy from Wesleyan University. Hoey is represented by Friedrich Petzel Gallery in New York. Her work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions including solo shows at the Hirshorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and Baltimore’s Center for Visual Art, Design and Visual Culture.
